Dear parents of the world,
This year has not been what you were expecting. Maybe your kid(s) just went back to their typical school. Maybe you’re navigating a hybrid school option. Maybe you are traversing virtual school. Heck, maybe you’ve chosen to home school your kid(s). Whatever choice you or your district made was a tough one.
Now we’re a couple weeks into the school year. I want you to know that you are doing great. There are a number of different challenges you may be facing. Financial hardships, time management, taking on a teaching role; you have a right to feel exhausted.
Let’s also bear in mind that you’ve been surrounded by the same people (your family) since March. This may be some amazing family time, but it can also be hella stressful. If you want to lock yourself in a bathroom for 15 minutes, I say, go ahead. You deserve a break. It’s also okay if the sight of your child/ren, partner, dog, etc. make you want to scream or hop on a plane to Bermuda. You’re still a good person, you still love your family. It is acceptable to be burnt out.
Remember to take care of yourself. Like the directions for the oxygen mask on a plane, you need to take care of yourself before you can care for others. It’s amazing how much a 5-10 minute “you time” break can help you be the best parent you can be.
You're a rock star!
Love,
